U100 after recovery issues

Postby mesyjasz on Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:57 pm

Hi I have just bought used libretto u100
I have changed (IT specialist) storage to 60 GB
I used my recoverty disk to established system.. after instalation i found following issues
1) I cannot turn on wifi controler( led is on or off according to manual switch however windows cannot find wifi controller... Intel WAN driver and client installed)
2)in hardware manager I have 3 issues... ethernet controller, Firewire and mass storage.. all marked with yellow mark ,mass storage and ethernet as a drivers not found ,firewire .. cannot start device.....
Using automatic driver search via internet didnt work... still cannot find device....
Please help.. what to do ?Is that possible that during disassembling (hard drive changing) some cable had been disconected?
Thx for any hint

hi mesyjasz,

I'm a bit confused why you got the HDD upgraded to 60GB - the Libretto U100 series all came with 60GB HDDs when they were released IIRC.

Regarding your hardware problems it sounds like driver issue to me - did you use the official toshiba recovery disk for your laptop? If you did, it should have installed all the required drivers for you.

The windows automatic driver search is crap and won't find the drivers for you - you may need to go and install them manually. If you haven't got the original libretto restore disk, you should be able to find the drivers for download somewhere on toshiba's website.

The wifi problem is a bit odd - the switch on the side should turn the wifi light on/off. Also note that both the U100's that I own use Atheros AR5212/AR5213 wifi controllers rather than intel. Yours may be the same, I'm not sure if all model librettos use Atheros or if some have intel wifi chipsets, but it may be that your trying with the wrong driver.

regards,
jethro

I strongly suggest not to install windows Vista on your U100, onl using 512MB of memory. I tried to run it with 1 GB and it was no more than acceptable.
Download the drivers from this http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=997820&rpn=PLU10U&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768659&selModel=997820|PLU10U and you will be set to go. Look for the Atherios WiFi drivers.

I just reinstalled Win XP on my Libretto U100 from scratch and I have all the hardware configured.

If windows has an incorrect driver installed and is unable to find the correct hardware, it may be suggesting that the wifi should be turned on, despite the fact that it is. Some of the wifi hardware switches turn off the entire card which is why windows is probably suggesting it. To me, it sounds like you have the incorrect wifi driver.

Sorry, can't help you there - I run Linux on both of mine. :-) But Bob's link has all the drivers that you need.

Hrrrm, that's a bit annoying, it may be a hardware issue then...

Hope Toshiba can sort it out for you successfully - please let us know the result here. :-)
