Take this with a pinch of salt (I certainly did)

Hey all,

Just a quick warning, please take this with a pinch of salt as it is probably incorrect.

Anyway I was chatting to a friend who works at Harvey Norman (a huge technology store in Australia) who was informed that Toshiba will be re-entering the sub-notebook market with a device similar to the Libretto with the following specs:

8.9 inch LCD screen
1GB RAM
120GB hard disk drive
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Inbuilt webcam

At present the name hasn't been released to retailers so it is unknown if it will be the next Libretto. From the above specs it would appear as though it would be fairly bigger than the u100.

Anyway please don't take this as gospel (I'm only posting it as a rant). I guess only time will tell if this is true.

Stu :)

What are your thoughts on it? I took a look at it today and it's small but definitely bigger than the Libretto. I don't quite know what I was expecting but I wasn't too wrapped in it.

I'm not that keen on it TBH.

The thing I love about the Libretto U100 is that it's a powerful fully-featured laptop shrunk down, giving an excellent high-res display and excellent build quality. A netbook is typically much more lower powered with lower screen resolutions, and with the tightness of the netbook market I suspect they will be as made a cheap as possible.

Netbooks certainly have their market, but I personally want a powerful (but small) laptop I can use all day as a desktop equlivant with the advantage of easy portability, build quality and features - and I'm happy to pay the price premium for it.

FYI: Bob - the link to Electronista on the page at http://www.librettoworld.com/libretto-t ... 105-it-is/ does not work - looks like the a href tags are screwed up.

Thanks. Fixed it.

I agree on the Libretto is a whole different story than the current netbooks. But, with the current hype on the netbooks, which are getting faster and feature richer by the day and the financial crisis, I do not think there is still a (big) market for Libretto like notebooks.
