WLAN / LAN with DOS/95 drivers for Libretto?

Postby andwan0 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 6:30 am

I am now the proud owner of a Libretto 100CT overlocked 266MHz 64MB RAM. I got it with floppy disk drive, token ring, modem, compact flash, docking station and wireless LAN card.

I guess the only thing that's useful for me is the wireless LAN card. It's a NETGEAR MA401. I checked the drivers and can get for Windows 95 to XP.

Am curious whether there's such WLAN or LAN PCMICA that work under MS-DOS? If not, what about FreeDOS? Has anyone heard of WLAN or LAN PCMICA cards with MS-DOS & 95 drivers?

Also, how can I access the BIOS?

Also, how can I install Windows 98SE without a CD-ROM drive?

Once I successfully installed Windows 98SE I like to image it using DriveImage XML via BartPE (bootable live XP CD). That means I really need to invest in a PCMICA cd rom drive. What is the best old 1990s PCMICA cd rom drive that works under DOS/95/XP and also boots too?

PS: Is it worth it installing Windows 3.11 with MS-DOS 6.22 in it's own partition?

The Cisco Aironet 340/350 series work under DOS to some extent. I've never had any luck setting WEP keys, but it works great when connecting to an unencrypted wireless network. To access the BIOS, turn the libretto on, keep pressing ESC, then it will tell you to press F1. The Libretto won't be able to boot to any CD drive, the BIOS simply doesn't support it. You need to install 98 by either making a DOS bootdisk with your PCMCIA cd drivers in config.sys/autoexec.bat, or you can remove the hard disk, copy the WIN98 folder off the CD onto the disk on another system, replacing it into the Libretto. Make a DOS bootdisk, boot into DOS, and run setup off the hard disk. You could install Windows 3.11 on the same partition, as long as it's formatted using FAT, and you install 3.11 into a different Windows folder, i.e C:\WIN2

You can install Windows 98SE without a CD ROM drive. Take out the HD, connect it using a USB-EDI cable to another computer and copy the files on the CD onto the HD. I usually create 2 partitions: 1 for the OS and 1 for the install image
